Opposite: Neil Armstrong came to UC to teach aerospace engineering in 1971, just two years after making history as the first man to set foot on the moon. He stayed until 1979. On the cover: In the early morning of July 7, space shuttle Atlantis was waiting for its place in history — the final space shuttle to be launched to the International Space Station.
