Columbus Zoo Beastly Banner Winter 2009 : Page 1We had a great summer filled with memories some happy and some sad. We experienced the excitement of Beco’s birth, the second season of Zoombezi Bay, and the opening two new animal experiences: Animal Encounters Village and Animals on Safari. Don’t forget about Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild sponsored by your Columbus Zoo and Aquarium! This amazing partnership with Jungle Jack allows the zoo to showcase all the great conservation projects we support in Ohio and throughout the world. All of these wonderful experiences were the result of the leadership of Jeff Swanagan and his unexpected passing saddened us all. We will miss him dearly, but we promise to keep his spirit alive by continuing to offer fun family experiences that touch the heart to teach the mind. Wildlights returns this winter and thanks to AEP we have more LED lights than ever! We’ll have a new holiday village featuring Santa and Mrs. Claus along with their Reindeer all in one location at Jungle Jack’s Landing. Our spectacular automated light show has been expanded to Animal Encounters Village offering two great shows! Looking forward to next year, make sure you don’t miss the opening of Polar Frontier this spring. This spectacular new area features the return of polar bears to the zoo along with arctic foxes, and a new home for Brutus and Buckeye, our Alaskan Brown Bears.
