Words of my mentors By Jane A. Hamblin In this report, my mentors are several collegiate members of Mortar Board, who, during a recent trip I made to Southern California, affirmed what makes Mortar Board such a special Society. In California for the annual meeting of the Association of College Honor Societies, I visited with collegiate chapters at San Diego State University, the University of San Diego, Chapman University, California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) and UCLA. During those visits, I heard one central Mortar Board theme repeated: Mortar Board exposes students to a rich and diverse network of scholar-leaders. Mortar Board offers its members a chance to expand their networks and, in doing so, enriches their lives. The chapters at CSUCI and Chapman are fairly new — CSUCI was installed in 2011 and Chapman is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2012. I was thrilled to join the Four Pillars Expanding our networks, enriching our lives at CSCUI for their selection meeting, and was delighted to present the Schweitzer chapter at Chapman with its anniversary certificate. I was impressed by the commitment and dedication to excellence demonstrated by both chapters.
