Continuing a Legacy continued from page 3 At the age of 7, Matthew asked his mother what his purpose Unfortunately, Matthew’s life was tragically cut short at the age of 25. He was at work, doing what he loved, tending to the needs of a golf course. was in life. We feel that Matthew’s purpose holds many actions yet to come. Family and friends have already seen bits and pieces of Matthew’s purpose in their daily lives. Through mending family squabbles, to allowing the straightening out problems in young people’s lives, Matthew’s soul has taken part. Our organization’s purpose is to carry on Matthew’s purpose. Through our golf outing and other fundraisers and private donations, we are keeping Matthew’s memory alive through a post secondary scholarship. Our goal is to give multiple $1,000 scholarships to individuals of Fairfield and Pickaway county schools to further their education and their life’s purpose in either a college or vocational school program. This is a passion we take very seriously and can only accomplish this goal with the help of individuals like you. Matthew’s scholarship has thus far been able to reward two young central Ohio high school golfers with a scholarship to carry on their post-high school educations (either at a technical school or college). Ben Feeny of Canal Winchester and Jason Weaver of Lancaster are the first two recipients of the Matthew W. Acton Memorial Golf Scholarship. These have been awarded strictly through an annual golf outing that takes place near Acton’s birthday every August. The Matthew W. Acton 3rd annual outing will be held at Pleasant Valley Golf Course (Lancaster, OH) on Saturday, August 8 with a 1:00 shot gun start. Registration will begin promptly at 12:00. The cost is $65 which includes dinner served from the Rooster’s wagon, beer tickets, compli- mentary gift and door prizes. A high end raffle will also be running with items such as Ninetendo Wii products, GPS systems, Ohio State Buckeyes Memorabillia, etc. Mulligans, skins, and 50/50 will run for a separate fee. A Honda car is also being sponsored by Buckeye Honda dealerships for a hole-in-one prize. Anyone wishing to sign up a 4-some for the event may visit www.mwactongolfouting.com for more information, or contact outing co-directors Tim Acton (tacton1@columbus.rr.com) or Danielle Bartos (yelldan19@hotmail.com) for further details. Please have your foursome information prepared upon contact. Registration will be cut off as of June 30, 2009. We are still seeking hole sponsorship. Contact Tim or Danielle if you are interested in advertising your business through sponsorship opportunities. It is only through passionate people like you that our passion connected to golf continues on. Thank you for reading about Matthew’s tremendous life which was cut too short.
