Summer is finally here. The golf season is in full swing.

May was a busy and exciting month for golf in Ohio.

The state played host to the Senior PGA Championship at Canterbury G.C. in Cleveland marking the start of the majors for the Champions Tour, as well as, the NCAA Men’s National Championship at Inverness

G. C. in Toledo which marked an end to another college golf season.

The Ohio golf championship season got off to a great start with the Ohio Senior Open at Firestone C.C. Decided in a three hole sudden death play-off, Mitch Camp outlasted Rod Spittle to take the trophy. A great start to the Ohio tournament season.

Unfortunately, a little rain wasn’t the only thing that dampened the Ohio Senior Open. The golf world lost a great ambassador to the game. Joe Nageotte, a long time Northern Ohio PGA member and contributor to the rules of golf, passed away from a heart attack suffered the night before the opening round. He will be missed.

Charity golf kicks into gear with the coming of summer. With the current state of the economy, there are many concerns that charity golf may suffer this year.

Golf events are key fundraisers for many charitable organizations. Even if you can’t afford to participate in the event, be sure to donate time and energy to assist with the events to be sure that these needed organizations continue to provide their needed programs.
